Leadership Fundamentals for Black Women

In so many different ways, Black women have a harder and worse experience than almost everyone else in the workplace. They’re often the only Black woman in the room and experience a greater variety of microaggressions than women of other races and ethnicities. This playlist helps unpack some of the most common biases Black women face at work, along with research-backed, actionable steps you can take to combat them. Start a Lean In Circle and bring together a group of women to work through the topics in this playlist together and practice what you learn. Each video is accompanied by a guide specific to the experiences of Black women for you to unpack with your Circle — your very own team of career coaches.

The biases women face can make negotiating more challenging, but there are researched-backed solutions to ensure you get what you want. In this video, we’ll teach you how to build a compelling case to support your request, how to prepare for your negotiation (including how to aim high!), and how to use language and framing to your advantage.

Each playlist is 7-to-9 months of curated content for women with shared experiences, career stages, or skill-building goals. We provide a kickoff guide to set the stage for your first Circle meeting, custom discussion guides for each video, and a Looking Back and Next Steps Guide after you complete the playlist (which is coming soon).
